Our Mission

We are on a mission to advance and improve how cardiac arrhythmias are treated. While currently approved therapies only target the cardiac tissue, we believe that we can revolutionize arrhythmia treatment and improve patient outcomes through selective cardiac neuromodulation.

Bruce KenKnight
Bruce KenKnightBruce KenKnight, PhD, Chief Executive Officer, has more than 30 years of medical device leadership experience in cardiology and neuromodulation. His previous roles include Vice President of the Heart Failure Program, New Ventures at LivaNova (formerly Cyberonics); President and CEO of Valtech Cardio; and Vice President of Research/Technology Development and Business Development at Boston Scientific (formerly Guidant Corporation). Bruce is a native of Minnesota, and holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He is an inventor of more than 600 issued and pending U.S. and international patents, and an author of over 200 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of cardiac electrophysiology, heart failure and neuromodulation.
Steven Girouard, PhD
Steven Girouard, PhDSteven Girouard, PhD, is an experienced medical device executive and has held senior management positions at Johnson & Johnson, Guidant, and Cleveland Clinic. He is currently a board director and consultant to several medical device startups, including AtaCor, LumaVision Ltd, Prima Medical, PolyVascular, ONWARD, Attune, and SymKardia. Dr. Girouard was previously President & CEO of Securus Medical, where he led the company from proof of concept through FDA approvals and acquisition by Boston Scientific. He also served as a partner at Oakwood Medical Investors and Omega Funds. Dr. Girouard holds a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and MS and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.
Imad Libbus, PhD
Imad Libbus, PhDImad Libbus, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer, is responsible for SymKardia's pre-clinical and clinical research program. Prior to joining SymKardia, he was a technical leader at multiple medical technology companies: R&D Fellow at LivaNova (formerly Cyberonics); Senior Director at Corventis (acquired by Medtronic); and Principal Research Scientist at Boston Scientific (formerly Guidant Corporation). Dr. Libbus holds a BSE in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University and an MSE and PhD from Case Western Reserve University. He is a prolific inventor, with over 280 issued U.S. patents.
Dwight Skinner
Dwight SkinnerDwight Skinner brings more than 25 years of medical device product development to the organization with a proven track record from product inception to commercialization. He leads product development , quality assurance and operations for SymKardia. Dwight previously developed catheter and stimulation leads for cardiac arrythmias, neuromodulation, arterial disease and atrial fibrillation at Guidant (Boston Scientific), Apnex Medical and Medtronic. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and is a certified Master Black Belt in Design for Six Sigma.
